Latin Internet Radio: Offering All Forms of Latin American MusicLatin America is home to many diverse music styles that are loved and enjoyed by music lovers across the world. Latin music is very diverse and the only thread unifying the various forms of music listened to and developed in various Latin American nations is the use of Latin derived languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese and the language used in Haiti.

Whether it is the Tango and the Argentine Rock from Argentina, Bolivian music, the Samba and Bassa Nova from Brazil or Spanish Reggae that is quite popular in Portugal, music from Latin American countries is world famous for its vigor and rhythmic beats. Several Latin radios have come up to cater to the needs of Latin American music lovers and offer music of varied types, whether it is the Conjunto music of Northern Mexico or the sophisticated Habanera of Cuba, the rhythmic beats of the Puerto Rican Plean or the symphonies of Heitor Villa-Lobos over the internet.

Latin Internet Radio: How it WorksA Latin internet radio, like all other internet radios, operates through the transmission of audio services via the internet and allows listeners to tune in to the music of their choice via the computer, without the need to download anything. These broadcasts are sent through a technique called streaming, which allows continuous receipt of data that can than be heard by users with a lag time of up to ten seconds. The lag time is attributable to the fact that the data is sent through a TCP/IP connection and than reassembled before the users actually get to hear it.

Article by Paul

The many cultures of South and Central America and the Caribbean islands blend American Indian, African and European (particularly Spanish and Portuguese) traditions. In folk music, the particular combination of elements varies from region to region, from the purely Indian forms of highland Bolivia and Amazon rain forests peoples to the mestizo (‘mixed’) music of Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, the largely Hispanic music of Argentina, and the distinctive style of Brazil, which blends African and Portuguese forms. Minorities such as the East Indians of Trinidad and Guyana, the Javanese of Surinam and the Japanese of Brazil complete this rich musical scenario.

Less Iberian heritage has in general been preserved in Latin America than British in North America; many areas are devoid of Latin influence. But some Hispanic poetic forms dating from the Middle Ages and Renaissance (for example the romance) are performed in a variety of forms throughout the continent, such as the copla of Colombia, the Andean countries and Argentina. Other folksongs, such as the Argentinian and Chilean Tonadas and Tonos, also preserve old Spanish literary forms. In contrast to the thriving Anglo-American tune repertory of the USA, however, few extant Iberian melodies are current in Latin America except the Hispanic children’s repertory, which is similar in its Old and New World settings. In the Andean region of Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, indigenous Indian music has absorbed Spanish elements, a process that began under the influence of 16th-century Christian missionaries. Andean tunes are essentially European, but often have much repetition and use tetratonic and pentatonic scales. This blend stands in contrast with the marked lack of acculturation between Anglo and Indian style in North America.

Music has played an important part recently in Latin America’s politics, the nueva canción movement being a prime example. Latin music is very diverse, with the only truly unifying thread being the use of Latin-derived languages, predominately the Spanish language, the Portuguese language in Brazil, and to a lesser extent, Latin-derived creole languages such as those found in Haiti.

Although Spain and Portugal are not part of Latin America, Spanish music and Portuguese music are strongly cross-influenced with Latin music.

Latino music now become famous in the world you can see Jennifer Lopez, a Popular Latin American singer or Shakira, a famous Colombian Latin pop singer and dancer, both of them now introduce modern Latin music and many people like their song. Other singers are Gloria Estefan and Marc Anthony. They have the best seller album in this period. Latin music with modern style is more interested than older one. It’s all because people and audiences like listening to music which has different style and several music instruments.

Now, you can read and download freebies of Latin music on musiclatino.com, one of latin music website review. It features daily updated free Latino music videos, photos, news, and everything about Spanish and Latin music. If Latin music is going to be more developed, it’s possible that Latin music in a few next years will get higher rating than now.

Article by Steve McMains

Think of rhythm and diversity in music and you have to turn to Latin music. Musical styles of all Latin American countries are collectively called Latin music. Prevailing languages in Latin America are derived from Latin language. Spanish, Portuguese and French are the common languages of Latin America. Hence, Latin music lyrics can be written in Spanish, Portuguese, Latin and other Romanic Languages.

That is why diversity is the main characteristic of Latin music. Energetic rhythms of Central America make Latin music more lively and attractive. Shades of Caribbean tune are frequently observed in Latin music. Simple acoustics of the Southern Cone and Andes impart liveliness in this music.

Flavors of Spanish and European musical styles and wild African beats are quite prominent in Latin songs too. Rhythm, diversity, down-to-earth tune and perfect use of instruments have established Latin music at an esteemed position. And that is the reason millions of people are fond of Latin music; even those who do not understand Latin, Spanish or other Romanic languages listen to Latin music to enjoy the tune and rhythm

Latin rhythm is very evocative and impulsive – it is quite easy to move the audience by the beats of Latin songs. That is the reason Latin and Spanish songs are played as dance numbers while partying. People love to toe to the beats of Latin music always. A lot of Latin music videos are released every year; it proves that dance is an invariable part of music in Latin America.

Latin rock is a significant part of Latin music. Latin rock is basically a blend of rock and Latin American instruments. The Caribbean and African rhythms make Latin rock jolly and jovial. Latin rock has a huge teen audience not only in Latin America, Mexico and Europe but all over the world. Music magazines, music TV channels and radio stations play Latin rock and publish music charts regularly to keep track of latest releases.

Latin rock is known for connecting various cultural and linguistic groups. Hence, diversity, the main feature of Latin music, is clearly observed in Latin rock too.

Carlos Santana is said to be the creator of Latin rock. He used rock guitar with classis Latin songs in 1960s and gradually Latin rock started getting shape. The style underwent a revival in late twentieth and early twenty first century by the path breaking styles of musicians like Jaguares, Aterciopelados and others.

All forms of Latin music including classical songs, jazz, rock and pop are popular in Latin America and have been widely spread to the outer world as well. Visit online music stores and music magazine websites to learn more about Latin music.

Article by Emantras

Like Indian folk art, Indian folk music also traces its roots way back to the dusty remote and pristine villages of India.

They represent the folklore of India and the variations they carry are dependent on the place of origin.

The beauty of Indian folk music is that there is no standard procedure or strict format; it has evolved with time without a formal period of apprenticeship where the student is able to devote their entire life to learning the music. The music is an indispensable component of functions such as weddings, engagements, and births. There is a plethora of songs for such occasions. There are also many songs associated with planting and harvesting. In these activities the villagers routinely sing of their hopes, fears and aspirations.Even amongst folk music, there are different subdivisions based on the state of origin, the popular folk music forms being – Bhangra, Dandia, Lavani, Garba, Bauls etc.

Most of these folk music forms are an extension of dance forms.Folk music has a pattern which closely follows classical music and the instruments like Dhol, Dholki, Ghatams, and Bansuri do have a similarity to the ones used in classical music.

Folk music has been the ‘music for sons of the soil’, very connected to the heartland of India. It is a music which transcends boundaries is usually sung by common men and women in day today situations. There are day to day situations like singing a lullaby for a baby, at a day’s work. There are also harvest songs, betrothal songs, chorus songs etc.

Bhangra, Dandiya and Lavani are more dance oriented forms of music. Bauls originated in Bengal in the 18th century and follows a light music pattern.

Cutback to the present times, where you feel the relevance and presence of folk music has faded; we still see the roots in special cultural occasions and festivals, the best example being Holi.Folk music is still used quite rampantly in Holi, where it blends seamlessly with the banter and mirth involved. In fact many contemporary singers do still practice folk music, the popular ones being Manoj Tiwari, Shyam Lal, Sucharita Gupta etc…Same as in occasions like ‘godh bharai’ which means pregnancy, in the 6th or 7th month; festivities use a lot of folk music. Of course, the languages and nuances change from place to place in India. This is mostly to take the blessings of the Lord and safe ‘delivery’ of the child.

‘Music Binds all’ the short movie made by mLab in Gurgaon, India used folk art and animation with folk music as a base. The movie elucidates the solution by showing a social gathering of people, the music created by the people attracts the nature and environment metaphorically explain the connection between human and nature is through musical vibration, it’s the beat of music has power to reinforce the relation.

This movie grabbed the spotlight because of the unique way folk music & art have been created using flash animation. This is a good pointer to the fact that Indian folk music in essence is so rich that it can still strike a chord with the contemporary audience.

Thus Indian folk music can also be termed evergreen as it has not lost its charm so far and is still mint fresh in the minds of people. It is also versatile enough to be revisited and recreated to suit the tastes of the younger audiences.

Classic Ireland Folk Music and Pub Tour

Experience the magic and excitement of Ireland’s traditional folk music on a road trip that takes in the country’s best folk music venues and festivals. Your tour should begin in the capital of traditional music, Galway, which hosts regular live performances and the renowned Galway Sessions. Then it’s on to Dublin, where pubs present rousing traditional sessions, and the Temple Bar Trad entertains folk music fans each year. Travel to Bantry, the seaside town that hosts several wonderful folk music festivals, before experiencing the traditional music entertainment at Dingle’s friendly taverns. No folk music tour of Ireland would be complete without a stop-over at Ennis, a centre for folk music that offers star-studded musical celebrations.

Tuneful Ireland

Ireland is renowned as one of the most musical nations and the world. A variety of musical genres have been influenced by Irish folk music’s distinctive jigs, reels and lyrical ballads. Fast and furious, the upbeat fiddle-centred traditional dancing tunes are rousing and cheerful while the slower ballads are heartbreakingly beautiful. The Irish are known for their musical prowess and are more than willing to share it with visitors. Folk music is a fixture in nearly every pub in the country, so pick up your pint, pull up a chair and lose yourself in the music.

Irish Folk Music at its Best

Galway is Ireland’s undisputed capital of folk music. It is one of the few mainly Irish-speaking regions of the country and its culture is deeply rooted in traditional elements. There are several stage shows centred on traditional folk music playing year round, and its pubs play host to the country’s best musicians.

The city’s major musical event is the Galway Sessions, which presents excellent Irish music in a friendly and relaxed environment. Different styles of traditional and folk music are performed at venues that range from the big stage shows of the Roisin Dubh, to more intimate folk club gigs in the Crane Bar. Of course there is plenty of folk dancing along with the lively music, and major names in Irish music perform at the festival each year.

If you’re interested in hearing the best Irish folk music your next stop should be Dublin. The traditional pubs of Temple Bar are often vibrating with the sounds of the fiddles, drums and vocalists inside, and this ‘cultural quarter’ of Dublin is also home to the Temple Bar Trad, an annual celebration of traditional music and culture. Top Irish traditional musicians and some international performers captivate thousands of music fans every year.

Besides the Temple Bar, there are countless other taverns scattered throughout Dublin, which host traditional folk music sessions. Tours are available of the best folk music Dublin has to offer and there are set shows operating year round. The Auld Dubliner, The Cobblestone and The Brazen Head are places to check out if you are interested in hearing some authentic Irish folk music.

If you travel to Northern Ireland, some wonderful traditional Irish folk music can be enjoyed in Belfast and Derry. Both Northern Ireland cities have many pubs with regular traditional sessions, ensuring a great evening out with the chance to absorb some Irish culture. Peadar O’Donnells in Derry, for instance, is a popular folk music venue, with wonderful traditional sessions held every night.

Celebrating Irish Folk Music

Lively folk music festivals throughout Ireland give top musicians the opportunity to meet, compete and showcase their amazing talents.Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, based in Tullamore near Birr, is the largest festival of Irish music, song and dance. The festival plays host to 230,000 people who gather from all over the globe to enjoy Irish culture. Thousands of musicians take part in this feast of Irish tradition, and the festival also involves a competitive aspect, as performers play to secure top honours.

Ennis has the honour of hosting two well-known folk music festivals each year. The Ennis Trad Festival is held during November, and features top quality Irish traditional music. The Fleadh Nua, held during May, has been entertaining and enthralling audiences for 35 years. The festival attracts about 50,000 patrons a year, who come to see the concerts, music, song, dance, workshops, street entertainment, pageants and parades, which celebrate everything Irish and traditional.

Fantastic folk music is presented at the Bandon Music Festival in Cork. This popular summer festival is hosted over a weekend in June and features the most creative performers in Ireland, ranging from new, unknown musicians to international stars. The seaside town of Bantry hosts the Young Masters of Tradition Festival, where promising young folk musicians share their unique interpretations of traditional songs. The festival is held in Bantry House, an elegant backdrop to the superb young musicians’ work.

Another more unusual festival is the World Bodhran Championships, which is devoted to the art of playing the traditional Irish frame drum, the bodhran. Held in Milltown, County Kerry, the event showcases the versatility of this unique instrument and features competitions to find the world’s top bodhran player.

Article by Terry Daniels

Folk music embodies the very origins and roots of our cultural ancestry. The term ‘folk music’ was not applied to musical folklore until the 19th century.

The term ‘folklore’ itself was not a known term until 1846 when William Thoms, an English antiquarian, used it to describe “the traditions, customs, and superstitions of the uncultured classes.”

Some of ‘folk music’s’ many definitions include music passed on through word of mouth, lower class music, and music with no definite composer. Folk music includes a variety of many commercial and classical styles.

In the 1950s the term ‘folk music’ began to be applied to popular music that was created from or based on traditional music. Folk, rock. electric folk, folk metal, and progressive folk music are all various types of music that are considered to be folk music under the 1950 definition.

The word folk comes from the German expression ‘volk’ which means “the people as a whole.” Johann Gottfried Herder was the first to apply this term to popular and national music around the 1800s.

Folk music has been a popular base for many of the fine arts and written works. Thomas Percy and William Wordsworth are among the first who are recorded to have some of their works based on folk lore.

Many Elizabethan and Stuart composers, including Franz Josef Hayden, based some of their music pieces on folk dances. Around the 1850s a need to connect with heritage and a strong feeling of nationalism erupted all over Europe.

Composers all over the continent began to write music derived from fold music. These composers include Dvorak, Smetana, Grieg, Rimsky-Korsakov, Brahms, Liszt, de Falla, Wagner, Sibelius, Vaughan William, and Bartok.

Despite the long history of folk music, there is still no set definition for what it truly means and includes. The International Folk Music Council says, “['folk music'] can also be applied to music which has originated with an individual composer and has subsequently been absorbed into the unwritten, living tradition of a community. But the term does not cover a song, dance, or tune that has been taken over ready-made and remains unchanged.”

Folk music continued to evolve and grow with a renewed urgency following World War II in the United States and Britain. The Victorian ‘volk’ was heard with suspicion, but ‘folk music’ was regarded as a style that was directly opposite of the “popular” or “pop” music.

‘Contemporary folk’ grew in popularity until the Grammy Awards ceremony added a ‘Folk’ category to the 1959 awards. Later ‘Folk’ was changed to ‘Best Ethnic or Traditional Recording.’

In 1987, they made distinct categories for ‘Best Traditional Folk Recording’ and ‘Best Contemporary Folk Recording.’ By the year 2000, the term ‘folk’ began to be applied to artists from the 1960s, including Donovan and Bob Dylan.

The Mountain Dance and Fold Festival is the oldest known folk festival. Bascom Lamar Lunsford started this festival in 1928 in Asheville, North Carolina.

The next oldest folk festival is the Sidmouth Festival which began in 1954. This festival was followed by the Cambridge Folk Festival in 1965 which was held in Cambridge, England.

However, the 1965 Cambridge Folk Festival is known for its reputation of hosting a very loose definition of folk musicians. These festivals provide opportunities for unknown musicians to present their work to an audience.

Throughout the years other branches of folk music developed. In the 1980s neofolk music was created by combining traditional European folk music and post-industrial music, as well as historical topics, philosophical commentary and paganism.

Folk punk, or rogue folk, was also developed by combining folk music and punk rock in the 1980s. Radical Folk was also developed to address political issues such as workers rights and capital punishment.

Traditionally, folk music has always been a way to pass on information and stories. Folk music has been a long tradition and provides us an important connection to the past.

Roc Nation, the record label of hip hop superstar Jay-Z, may indeed be building the next music empire. The label is already home to several of the industry’s up and coming talents, including J. Cole and Willow Smith, with the most recent to the ranks being the budding star Jay Electronica.

The label, formed in April of 2008 through the partnership of Jay-Z and Live Nation, is a music industry original, merging talent and management in a unique and ingenious manner. The company is made up of songwriters, producers, artists and engineers.

An artist like Jay Electronica is bound to bring incredible benefits to the company, not only in terms of music and emcee talent but as a marketing and merchandizing expert as well. The reason for this is that “Jay Electronica download” is one of the most common internet searches performed by hip hop fans every day.

The manner in which the young rapper has reached viral stardom online is certainly a method that will be of benefit to the Roc Nation label. Releasing his first major track on his own MySpace page in 2007, Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge), Jay Electronica managed to rocked himself into the hip hop without a big record label or a huge marketing budget.

The emcee continued to release his work online via sites like MySpace and Twitter, taking advantage of the free publicity such social networking sites provide and marketing on the word-of-mouth activities of fans. The next single released, Jay Electronic Exhibit A was an instant hit among current fans, and managed to win the young artist even greater attention.

Beginning his formal career in Detroit, by making industry contacts that included some of the hip hop world’s best known producers, Jay Electronica managed to go from an internet sensation to an artist with a big name record deal in just three years, signing with Roc Nation in 2010.

So how did he manage such a feat? It was the Jay Electronica Exhibit C that likely secured his place in the hip hop industry, winning an “Instant Classic” award from the Sucker Free Summit Awards on MTV2. This formal recognition introduced even more music fans to the unique sounds of the artist and drove further online investigation of the artist, with internet searches for “Jay Electronica lyrics,” “Jay Electronica music” and “Jay Electronica download increasing exponentially.

It seemed somewhat unlikely during the first few years of his career that he would release a full album, but since signing with Roc Nation it now appears that Jay Electronica will do just that. Tracks from the new multimedia venture began to appear online in 2010, with the official release date planned for 2011.

With a major label now behind him and even more exciting ventures in the future, Jay Electronica moved from obscurity to stardom in a period of just a few years, and made his path through very non-traditional means. Roc Nation’s other artists could certainly benefit from the up and coming star’s marketing playbook.

Sasha and Digweed are Trance and Electronica legends, the Lennon & McCartney of progressive electronic dance music. They’ve been making a buzz with their one night stand “reunion” with Cream.

“John [Digweed] and I play together regularly, last year we did a whole tour of the states together we have played New Year’s Eve in LA a couple of times together, so it didn’t really cross my mind that it had been so long since we had done one of these back-to-back sets in the UK. But then when we actually looked at our diaries it had been years,” says 42-year-old DJ Sasha on the one-off reunion of Sasha and Digweed with Cream (no, not the hard rock trio of Clapton, Bruce, and Baker from the late 1960s) for a live performance this May.

Sasha has been spending a tremendous amount of time in the recording studio, where he became famous as a “sir mixalot” (his other favorite mixing involves vodka). He’s been adapting to the dramatically changed 21st century music industry in which even a famous musician can’t rely on sales of albums to make a living. Sasha really enjoys his time in the studio since it gives him a normal routine. He gets up at a normal hour of the day and goes to bed the same way. He enjoys that routine and considers it his “office job.” He gets so buzzed by the completion of a new recording that he just wants to get out there in front of people and play that music with other musicians. He’s always found it a hard line to walk, balancing that time in the studio with that desire to be playing live in front of an audience.

I guess we can all hope that Sasha and John enjoy playing together so much on this one-off that they continue on with their love of playing live. They’ve inspired a lot of new electronica, such as the music of Jemmy (John Varley), the 24-year-old who is opening for them. Pump up the volume and keep it going, Sasha and John!

Article by Helen Beck

The Emi Encorebudget series from EMI Encore Classics has proven to be the ideal way to save money on beautiful classical music. Because the easysaver series is both inexpensive and it covers a wide range, it is absolutely one of the best ways possible to get started in the wonderful world of classical music.

In recent years there has been a rediscovery of the classical music from the past. Many people that previously listened to rock and roll, country, and other types of music, are now finding that there are reasons that the classics have lasted for centuries. Through these individual discoveries, more and more classical CDs are being sought after, and this easysaver program delivers.

Nowadays many parents are home schooling their children, and in doing so it is important to introduce the finer arts – which of course, includes an introduction to classical music. After all, this wonderful music, like fine sculptures and magnificent paintings, is a part of our past. And music is perhaps more real to most of us than the other fine arts, simply because we have access to it in more ways. We can read about the great composers of yesteryear and attend concerts, but we can also own CDs that we can listen to in our own homes. This makes the music more tangible. It also results in a much deeper appreciation, not only for the music itself but also for the effort and sheer brilliance of the composer.

The EMI Encore budget line series from EMI Classics has enabled countless individuals the opportunity to explore classical music and learn which composers and exactly what variety of classic is their favorite. This easysaver program includes music from all the greats, including Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and so many others. It is the perfect starting point for a beginner as an introduction into fine classical music, but is just as well suited for anyone who is knowledgeable and has an ear for the classics.

The reality is, this easysaver budget line series offers a great way to save money while building a collection of music of which to be proud. The more one listens to this type of music, the more he or she can truly grasp and appreciate the talent required to create it. Beginning with the greats is the ideal way to learn about classical music, and the EMI Encore provides an opportunity to do it without spending a lot of money. It’s a win-win situation.

Helen Beck is a college student who was finding it difficult to afford a collection of music of which she could be proud. When she discovered EMI Encore’s easysaver line, Beck found that even on her shoestring budget the fabulous classical CDs were affordable. She devised a plan of purchasing one CD each week. This easysaver program worked out very well for her, and over time she has built a wonderful collection of classical music.
